  • What kind of backing????

I have a shirt that is 48% polyester, 48% cotton 4% spandex rib-knit. It is very stretchy. What kind of backing do I use and how taught do I pull the shirt when hooping? I only have one so if I screw it up . . . it's bad ;o)

    Thanks for any help/tips/advice!!

Depending on the size of the logo...for a normal left chest (4" x 4"), I would probably use a spray adhesive to adhere a piece of backing to the garment so that there would be no stretching of the fabric during the hooping process. A bigger logo might need to be stretched a bit for the wearability of the owner (e.g. a wide logo over the entire front of the shirt kept at its non-stretched size might keep the owner from being able to wear the garment or worst, make the embroidered section look "tight" as the fabric above and below it would be stretched).

Hi Dorothy. You to my rescue yet again ;o) I don't have any spray adhesive. I just place an order and put some adhesive stuff on my order. So what if anything would you do anything if you didn't have adhesive?

      I hope you've had a good week.

It sounds to me that you may want to try the fusible no show diagonal mesh-
What is your stitch count and is it dense?

What you must acheive in your hoop approaches a "tambourine skin" tyype tension.
There is a happy mediun - do not stretch your shirt too much so that it will pucker when unhooped
GEt a ggood taut tension and make certain that you atabilizer does not allow the shirt to move in any way whatsoever while youre sewing
Our stabilizers - beiong wet laid non wovens
        have no directional stretch

Spary adhesive was suggested to assure thatb there is no slippage in your hoop - but sparays can be real messy and toxic
So we develoed lo melt 260F fusible adhesives
Low enough to bond w\/o scorching or shrinking your fabric
Pls e-mail me off list for samples and more info

Go to the fabric store and buy some fusible stabilizer. You might want to test a piece on some other material to see if it's permanently adhered or not. If it isn't don't worry about the size you apply but if it is permanent, cut so the stablizer is just about a 1/2" wider all around your design size. You can iron it on. Good Luck.

I hope your machine is just stitching away now!
