  • Melco Training

I am as new as they come to Embroidery, I have been able to get my Amaya to sew pretty well. with everything I have tried. but I always try on similiar fabric first then after about 5 times I go for the real thing.
my question is, is the melco training worth the money and time?
melco wants $1200 for the training seems like alot.
are they just going to teach me what I have been able to learn on my own?
they also want $600 to relicense my machine
seems like everyone wants a piece of a new business owner.

I thought it was worth the time for me anyway,I guess it dependes a lot on which instructor you get for your class. Our classes were free for the first year after purchase of our machine. We were new to embroidery when we bought our machine as well.I would suggest you use your machine for a few months before going to class,we had people in our class that have not even turned it on be fore coming to class.I have not been to the hat class or the digitizng class yet but I will have to pay for those now.Is there a training center close to you,if not be sure to add your travel expenses, but at least Uncle Sam will help with all of the expenses. We took our classes in Denver in Feb. not sure I would do that again being from Texas my blood was a little thin for that at or below zero at night!

The closest training for Michigan would be Chicago. Maybe see who your tech is and see if they could come out and do some hands on training on the machine instead of you going to them...Not sure if it would be a price difference but worth the try if it is...

      Good Luck!

If you are anticipating training is going to show you how to be the embroidery guru then take a breath. Yes, you are going to sew some stuff and hoop some stuff and play with the software but they are not going to make you an embroidery guy. They will teach you how to use the Amaya OS software and how to run and maintain the machine properly. They will give you the same with the Design Shop software, but they are not going to teach you how to digitize beyond some very rudimentary steps. I went to training in Denver a long time ago and do not regret a minute of it, just do not misconstrue what your idea and Melco's idea is. This is not in any way to say Melco did not/does not satisfy their training obligation to their customers. I have spoken to many who had the misconception that Melco was going to train them and they would be a turn key out of the box embroidery god/goddess..

To wait for training if you are a complete newbie was the biggest mistake we ever made-and the worst advice the Melco salesman could have given to us. We even tried to have the machine picked up and taken back...it was over 6 months before we finally could get to training in New Jersey and we should have done it BEFORE we ever got the machine-we couldn't even figure out how to send anything from the program to the amaya until another owner came all the way across the state to help us get going-the salesman didn't give a rat's patooty whether we got it going or not-he walked away from us once we signed the sales agreement-his job was done!
You will NOT regret taking the training-get it as fast as you can!
As for the 'relicensing'...what that does is register YOU as the owner of the machine AND the programs, so that you qualify for tech and support help from Melco. This help and resources is NOT transferable from the original owner to a new owner of their machine-Melco has to pay their staff to provide you with on-line and phone tech help, so you pay them the 'license fee' to get your share of that.
And if you can get the WARRANTY on your machine, another $100 per month-just ONE repair covered on warranty makes it worth the price. You ALSO get a yearly overhaul/tune up of the machine...on site-with a live tech...and that can cure many annoying little problems and keep them from turning into a disaster in the middle of a job.
