  • How Close?

How close can I embroider to the cap bill , my first hat is about a 1 1/4 away, any tricks to get it closer would be appreciated

  • #2
I am sure it depends on the hat but I usually do hats anywhere from a 1/4 to 1/2" up from the bill. I think in training they say to measure up 1/4" from the bill.

    Good Luck!

How are you hooping it to get that close? We use the CCF hoop all the time, and cannot get any closer than an inch-because the hoop reaches 'hoop limit' if we try to move the hoop/design down further.
And all the hats we sent out (bulk orders) to Dick and Pat are the same. The 'height' allowable to sew in on my amaya is the same amount they told me was all they could sew also.
If there is a way to get closer to the brim it would give us an extra 1/2 to 3/4 inch field.

Have you tried setting it to the extended cap frame to see if you get a bigger field to sew in?

Ok, I am not sure on the CCF hoop as I only use the WACF. I also just checked one of my hats and it is sitting at 3/4" off the brim but I can go closer as well. I tried to go back through my training notes and didn't find the notes for how much you are suppose to measure up but for some reason 1/4" or 1/2" sticks in my mind.
Maybe it depends on the hat and design along with the frame on how close you can go as I am usually just doing lettering on my hats.
Maybe someone with more experience can let us know if it is the design that really lets you determine how close you can go.

I uncheck the hoop limit when I am sewing caps so I can get lower on the cap. Approx 1/4" from the bill depending on the hats. Just have to be careful anytime you take off hoop limits.

Wow now that's what I call good response , Great suggestions , Aaron I was thinking to your response and if you can turn the limits off can you just change the actual hoop limit that way you it would allways be saved ??? , I'll have to look at that when I get home.
