  • buying 1st melco

hi all i am looking to buy my first melco. I was wondering what kind of computer set up is best for the machine. What do i need to get up and running. I am having a hard time finding anywhere that helps newbies. Any hekp you nice folks can give me would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance.

Hi Michelle. You'll love yoru Amaya adventure. I'd go with an XP, dedicated to the machine. It will need to have at least two USB ports for the security keys (dongles) to plug into, and an ethernet port. Max out the memory if you are going to be using Design Shop a lot. Best of Luck!

Dont forget to get a line conditioner as well. You should get a few notions with your machine if not call Melco Mart and see if they will send you out some samples to try on your machine.

      Good Luck!

DesignShop 2008 runs on both Vista and XP. 2008 comes out in the next month or so (I think, ask your salesperson.) As far as a computer goes, what do you plan on running on it besides Melco software? The more stuff you put on, the more memory and hard drive space you will need. Most computers come with minimum 80gb hard drives now which is plenty of space for embroidery files. It would take about 50,000 embroidery files to fill an 80gb hard drive. I would suggest a minimum of 1gb of RAM and at least 128mb video card as well. Of course, you could upgrade those options but it really isn't needed.
As Tina said, a UPS backup is suggested. One for machine and one for computer. (about $60 each at BestBuy.) I have had my power go out both digitizing a design and running the machine and it was nice to keep moving along until I could finish the designs to shut machine and computer down safely.
