  • Design change during sewout-HELP!

I'm running a logo on back of flourescent orange jacket (Sanmar) with an applique oval to start it right off-green material for a background. Then a couple trees, and a 30 pt satin border to tie it down. I start with the material cut to size and then a zigzag to hold it. Once the trees start sewing, the applique started to 'shrink' and pulled into the center, leaving 1/8" of jacket showing between the tie down and material. I know the satin border stitch won't cover it...and too late to rip it all out and start over.
Here's my question if someone knows...can I stop here, 'reload' the design, and then load in a corrected design with a 50 pt satin stitch-that should cover the gap.
When I loaded the original design, I centered the design, centered hoop, and then moved the hoop to line up the laser point dead center on the jacket. If I stop, reload, load corrected image, and start at that needle to continue-will it lay down the oval outline in the exact same spot as if I just continue?
No spare jacket, or spare material to cut a new applique.

Roland - I did something like this once. The only difference is that I didn't move the hoop on the AMAYA. All centering was done in DS, hoop was centered on the machine and then off I went. I learned this trick from Rod & Sharon in case I ever need to go back to clean up something like you mention here. The other difference would be that the stitch count may change (shouldn't but it may) when you fatten up the satin stitch. You would have to know the stitch you want ot start back on.

Maybe try it on a spare piece of material that is marked for where you want it to sew.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.

Good luck - and let usknow how it turns out.

here's what I'm going to try...thanks for the help Tom...
I am going to 'skip' that outline and finish the sewout.
NOT remove the hoop, but load the 'corrected' design with the wider outline-and skip to that needle and start the outline again.
If I moved the hoop to center the image and let it finish, then it thinks it is starting a 'new' item in the same spot-since I am loading the same image without moving anything.
      Cross your fingers...here we go!
I thought there was a way to stop a design, reload it, and not lose your 'starting point' if it wasn't all started dead center.
      Hope it works-I'll report back!

        Roland,

That will work....I've done it many times (letterman's jackets). I usually "end the design", leave hoop movement alone, reload the "new design", go the the thread color (or stitch number....all things being equal, the stitch count should be the same at the beginning of your border). Good luck!

Well, we salvaged the first one...and the logo design in the oval moved the fabric so much I had to stop and restart/move the satin outline 6 times to get it around it without it being very noticeable.
          NOT a time effective method!
So we're setting up the second jacket and reworked the sewout
to do the entire oval and outline first, then shrunk the logo inside
so it no longer was covered by the outline. Added some tie down zigzag lines hidden by the trees to really hold the material in place.
          All day for 2 jackets!

Any time you move the hoop from centered to a different starting position you re-locate the "origin". In Rolands case he can simply stop the machine, click "return to origin" then rest the design. Then load the new image and start again or move to the appropriate stitch.

Arrggh! I knew there was a way to get it to go back to the 'new' origin.
You wouldn't believe how long it took and how many times I had to stop, cut some out, move the hoop a 'tweak' and restart to hide the edge of the oval...just couldn't get it to line up again!
For the second jacket, I went back to Design Shop, shortened the 'trees' that went under the outline top and bottom so they butted up to it, and stitched a holddown pattern where the trees would be and the outline-then the outline, then the trees, etc. so the applique couldn't move at all once the outline was down. It's finishing up now...what a hairpulling job! Have to find that 'return to origin' setting when it's done.
              Thanks!
