  • Outlining

Can anyone give me some advice on outlining. I am having problems with sharp corners. The corners are really long and a ton of thread is bunched. Is it the stitch length? If so how do I change the stitch length on a column 1 and singline center.

Example. I am stitching an applique A and the outline of the center cutout is really sharp and pointed. The outline extend through the top of the A for some reason.

    Thanks

Acute angles are always a problem for column stitches. Try adding more points at the sharp point to make is just a little rounded.

      Jason,

Double click on the part of the design to take you to properties. Go to corners and either miter or cap them. You can also adjust the single line so the corners don't go out so far. If you want me to look at your design send it to [email protected].

Thanks Juli, Aaron. I have been using the corner properties. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not. I have not tried adding points though. I have also been pulling in the node to shorten the point also. So I guess I am on the right path.

When doing applique - I can't get to the corners properties. I convert the applique for that letter to an outline, duplicate it for the the tack down ( and downsize to 98%). Then I add the singleline which you can then miter the corners. I talked to the blond guy at the ISS show and he hadn't thought about allowing us to do anything with corners on applique. Said he would look into it - so I'm hoping that they will get right on it and do it for the next update.

I could never get the mitered corners to look right-so I de assembled a Dakota design to see how they did it. Each 'line' or side of a box, triangle, etc. or outline on a letter is a SEPARATE line-because they start and stop in the same point it sews continously but you have no short stitches trying to go around the corner. If it's a column stitch for wide outline, you can 'angle' the points just make sure they overlap a couple stitches and it will look perfect.
            Works for me!
