• Locked up computer

Hi gang, I am having trouble with the Amaya OS computer lately. Haven't added anything new, it is on the net but not used on the net and no viruses have been detected. we are using OS vers. 7.00.050 and have been running it for months now at least 6 or more. but over the last month the computer is suddenly freezing and unable to continue. when I Ctrl-alt-del I see that the CPU usage from the OS is at 99 to 100%
even when the machines aren't running. Shut down the OS and the cpu drops down to a more normal 2 to 5%. I know there are a lot of techy types out there and I know my stuff pretty well. but htis has me baffled. the new OS may have been running at capacity all along since install, but I never checked it because it worked fine. this a windows XP machine and it inly has 128 megs ram on it. and we only run the OS on it.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this would suddenly start? I am going to get more RAM installed 5 years ago when I bought it it was more than the minimum required but I never bothered to check the requirements when we installed new upgrades. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

How long since you did your last 'defrag' on the computer? I hardly use our Amaya-it can sometimes sit for a month and never get used...but at least every 3 months I run the 'defrag' on it-because the memory gets all bogged down when doing digitizing...every single click of the mouse...more memory used up.
I'll bet you do a 'defrag' tonite and you will see it takes forever (the first time) and if you watch the visual graph-you'll see how clogged up your memory is!

On a serious note. My computer that I run DS on has gotten real slow this week for some reason. I do notice that the ENS program as soon as I start it takes a ton of resources for some reason. SHould ENS make my processor usage go from 10-120% up to 90-100%?

Any thoughts. Jeff are you lurking?

ENS is the software that runs my EMT machines (the model before AMAYA's) . I know people will be asking so I just threw it out there.

Go to http://www.ccleaner.com/ and download CCleaner. It's free, easy to use and does a good job of removing garbage that ultimatley collects on your hard drive. It also cleans up your registry.

Another good software to consider when trying to maintain a healthy operating system is Registry Mechanic ... its not free but does a good job of keeping your computers registry in order.

It is also a good idea to get in the habit of making regular defragging a part of your systems maintenance.

Try this...

START > RUN

TYPE CMD

At the command prompt - type CHKDSK /F

Most likely it will tell you it cannot dismount the volume - would you like to check it the next time you reboot. Say Y for yes and press enter.

Exit out and reboot.

Let it run Check Disk and fix any problems - then go ahead and run defrag

I doubt any of your suggestions will fix it. Ron says he only has the problem with the DS OS is open and it runs fine when DS is closed. The problem is with Melco software, not the computer.
Ron, I would call Melco for help unless Jeff is around but I haven't seen him comment much lately.

Read that Steve - was thinking the area of the hard drive DS/OS is on is bad.

Has anyone heard of, or know of a supplier of work wear that has a PPE (personal protective equipment rating)? I have a customer looking for some that does industrial electrical work.

Thanks

Applique question. I am trying to do a applique design for a hat. You know the frayed material with a design embroidered on it. I have the design set up in DS with my outline stitch, then tack down stitch enabled with a walk stitch and a walk stitch offset of -36 points to tack the material down close to the embroidery design area. I see the tack down stitch in design shop but when it sews it does not sew the tack down stitch only the outline stitch again.

Where have I missed the boat?

I do have the applique option on in OS when I sew.
