I have a customer who wants a three-letter monogram in the middle of a shower curtain. They want either Melanie or Diane script font. Does anyone have any advice on letter sizes? I tried a 4-6-4" sizing with Diane Script, and my stitch counts were outrageous (12K to 40K, depending upon the stitch type used). The letter columns also get so wide that I have to either split or fill stitch... again, increasing the stitch count.

Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be?

Yes you are making it more difficult than it needs to be. Don't comprimise quality for stitch count. At 1200+ spm don't worry about a few thousand stitches. Just remember to charge accordingly.
