Take it from me, I have to buy jackets in that size to get the length I need for my gorilla arms...in shirts, sweats, etc. I wear a XXL but can, in some lines, wear XL. XXL and XXXXL clothing is NOT always going to work-because most of the time the clothing is the same length as XL, but wider like crazy. So a 'portly' or 'stout' man could wear XXL or XXXL and still only be a 48 or so.
You have to find out his height, and width. Is he tall and robust, or short and rotund? I'm 6' 1/2", used to be 6'1", but my fingertips are also 72" from tip to tip if I stretch my arms out. I only weigh 230# not, high point was 260#-but I've had to buy size 52 jackets for years to get the wider shoulders to keep the arms from riding up. Thank goodness Sanmar came out with TALL man jackets! Now I can get the length I need. I have dealt with many, many upset contractors I do screenprinting and embroidery for when they have someone 6'4" tall, 300#-but he isn't fat-and a XXXL sweatshirt doesn't even come down to his navel! I know us guys aren't fussy about our clothes-that's why our wives have to dress us-but we DO like to have our sweats and jackets go below the belt line! Because of this problem with different styles and lines, I keep 1 of each size jacket and sweatshirt in a couple lines on hand at all times for them to try on-or for a wife to hold up one against to compare. Every year I 'sell' them if I need to for a 'single' order, and just get a new one next time I order bulk. That way they stay 'fresh' and dated. Ones that are my size I keep! It has been handy-I've made many 'on the spot' sales of jackets because I had one on hand for someone looking for an extra gift or surprise for an employee or relative.
Not sure where you got that 52 is a 4XL according to Carhartt 52 is the larger side of a 2X. I will post the Carhartt size chart on the e-mail group cause I don't think we can attach here.
Hey Signman glad to see another knuckle dragger here.76 inch reach and a 33 inch inseam sometimes if I stoop I don't even need to cut my fingernails. Thanks for the heads up about tall jackets from Sanmar. How is the selection of shirts like a Lapco brand shirt, these fit very well long tail and sleeves.
Hey fellow neanderthal! LOL...my hero was Monk (I think that's his name) in the Doc Savage series...and I caught a french canadian movie one time and they had the perfect person for the part...I was impressed to see that I wasn't a genetic misfit!
For shirts-I am really impressed with the polos from WW Group USA (they just took over the Diport line, out of Florida). Shirts so long my wife can use mine for a nightshirt.
Port Authority etc. from Sanmar is pretty good, better than the stock Gildan, Hanes, etc. Never heard of Lapco-send me website info if you have it. All the contractors etc. I do work for are very pleased with the tall jackets from Sanmar-can't find them anywhere else.
Lapco is a shirt that the welding shops usually stock. I have not looked to see if we can get them wholesale or not yet.Just type in Lapco welding shirt. We are pretty new at this buiness and have only just begun with looking at different vendors. We have been using S&S,Otto cap and have used Virginia T's once for a screen print order, all have been good so far. Thanks alot for the info.
