  • Some puckering happening - Help!

Hi - I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
I just did practice sew outs on Nylon Oxford that I will be doing a 36K stitch logo on the back of Swim Parkas. I only have the backs so there is no lining of any kind yet. I used two layers of cutaway and on one I used a solvy topping. I used a 70/10 Sharp needle. What needs to be done to aleviate some puckering in areas of the design or letters that have curves/rounding? Oh I also made a window using tearaway on top to avoid the hoop slipping on the nylon oxford. It was hooped tight and could have been used as a drum! Could that be the problem?????
    Please advise asap.

    Hi Debbie,
Yes, hooping too tightly will definitely cause puckering. Nylon is a difficult fabric because it is so thin anyway. You shouldn't need Solvy at all. If you can lighten the density in those areas of your design, do so. The 70/10 needle should be ok--I use 65/9 sharp if possible. I may disagree with the heavy backing. I try to use the same weight of backing as the garment I am sewing on so I would probably use 2 layers of Poly-Mesh crosshatched. Hope some of these combinations will work for you.

      Hi Sharon,
Thank you for the advice. The logo is 11X4 & 36K Stitches.I have 65/9 Sharps, should I go with those? I have poly-mesh, is it OK to spray lightly with the KK100 on the mesh and stick it to the Nylon Oxford? What about tear-away, or is that not a wise choice for this?
FYI - The underside of the fabric is water- repellant coated and when I am done with the embroidery I am sending them back to be completed with the fleece lining, etc.
      Thanks again for your help.
