  • sewing on veil mesh?

Okay, my turn to ask for help. I have a sample of very fine mesh from training class of gold metallic thread on 'veil' mesh-like a wedding veil. I don't have to use metallic thread-that stuff is just too much of a pain. I want to decorate with white thread and add flowers, etc. on veil material to attach to wedding stuff. Custom names, dates-etc.
Anyone know how it's done so there is no backing?
I have a Big Red, not an XT and need to do a lot of this.
Not a clue where to start for backing, thread, density, etc.
I know it looks great when it's done right.

    Roland:

You will probably want to use a water soluable for your stabilizer and I would just do everything the same so like a 75/11 needle and 40wt thread and it should be ok. I just tried sewing on screen door mesh last week and I used water soluable and ran the design as usual. The one thing is with mesh is where there is the holes your design will actually move to the line closest to it so you wont get a clean design as if you were sewing on fabric.

You could also put the design on organza with a water soluable and then sew the design on the veil as well.

Here is a link to the screen door sample I did last week.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I have the needles, will have to get the thinner thread.
So you use the solvy as a backing or on top and nothing on the back?
And I have to ask...why a screen door?

I used solvy on back nothing on top...

I actually saw it done on Embroidery Library on fireplace screens and screen doors and thought it was cool and different and I like to do things different so I tried it and it actually worked...Now if I can only talk the husband into letting me put flowers on the screens I will be all set..

I thought maybe you were going to be embroidering on bras and panties for the Bionic Woman....LOL.....
          Oops, I did it again...LOL...
          showing my weird side....

I would think on a fireplace screen if it was ever used the thread would melt or at least dry out and fall apart.

Alot of people don't use their fireplace all year round so why not dress it up..boring is out!

If the job paid good I would do it, bra and underwear that is...

She gets more personal than I do
Well, I guess I do have a line of mini thong bikini keychains...
Bi-KEY-ni's...I produce for retail. So maybe I'm as bad/good as she is. Can't embroider on them-too small...but I imprint them will all kinds of things.
