  • Colored bobbin thread

Has anyone tried these? I bought some and tried using it and kept getting bobbin & thread breaks. Once I put the others back in my machines ran smooth......I just hate when I get that white bobbin piece embroidered in with a dark color like Navy.

On the rare occasions I've wanted a matching color (other than white or black) for my bobbin thread, I've wound my own. Either by hand using an empty cardboard-sided one or a metal one. You can purchase the L bobbins from a local sewing shop (like JoAnn's) and wind them on your sewing machine.

Melco sells an empty bobbin spool for this purpose. Just got mine today, but haven't tried it yet. I'm pretty sure the NEB's would work too.

I got them from Terradon Embroidery (various colors)Would I need to change any settings, I tried adjusting the bobbin tension a bit but nothing helped outside of replacing them.
They are in clear plastic, not like the paper type we got from Melco. They are size "L" and I told them my machine type and said that I can use them......

I would make sure that there is no lint in the casing and then check your bobbin tension. Since normal bobbin thread is thicker than 40wt embroidery thread (which may be what the bobbins have--you should be able to check with Don at Terradon Embroidery), the tension will have to be adjusted.

Check how the bobbin drops with a regular bobbin, then adjust the tension with the colored-bobbin to match it. Hope this helps.

I think the colored bobbins are actually made for home machines and are using cotton thread. They are the same bobbin size though. I have never tried them but knowing they are for home use I would slow the machine down to 500 SPM and make sure the bobbin isn't too tight. Don and Terri at Terradon use Melco EMT's and I am sure they would work on them (I have 4 EMT's and 6 AMAYA's) but because of the speed and the auto feed system on the AMAYA I am not convinced they would work the same on the AMAYA. Again I have never tried anything besides white and black on the AMAYA and even the black didn't run real well for me although it was ok.

I talked to Don & he said to tighten the bobbin tension and slow the speed down too.
The description say's high tenasity polyester bobbins.....
I will try it one more time.

We have found that if our customers run pre-wound bobbins the standard bobbin case is ok, but if winding either metal or plastic bobbins, it is best to have a bobbin case with the backlash spring in it.

We run custoomers machines at 1500 spm with metal bobbins and backlash springs, without problems.

The part number from melco for the bobbin case with spring is 006919-01.
