  • Sewing with Metallic Threads

Trying to use metallic threads for the first time. A customer would like a 3 letter monogram on a terry cloth towel. She has picked the "End Scroll" lettering with-out its border. On the large towel she would like it to be at least 6" height. On the hand towel, 3" height. I'll be using Mon-Rex Metallic Gold D-6. Of course I'll be using Solvy on top. Any suggestions on needle size, density, underlay, etc? Thank you in advance!

Metallic should be run at around 750spm so you don't get a lot of thread breaks. Use tearaway backing and solvy on top. Density should be changed to 4.4 since metallic thread is thicker than regular thread. If the lettering is less than 1" use zigzag as an underlay. Taller than 1" use double zigzag. This font is thin so adjust the pull comp to 150% also

Steve, thank you very much. And I assume I should be using a larger size needle (80/12).
This will also be the first time I'm using a different size needle.

      Thanks again,
      Armand
