  • Advice on insert

A customer just brought me two specially ordered woven blankets which were embroidered to her specifications. She made a mistake and wants me to change one letter in the embroidery. Instead of HUM, we need HCM. I found the font (New Times Roman), found the letter size (sewed one on backing until it was right), tell me how you would go about making sure this letter sews in just the right place between the other two??
    Thank you.

I'm a big chicken. I think I would sew it onto backing, pull all the backing away, and glue it on.

If it has to be sewn on, I'd put one stitch where the H ends on the left, and one stitch where the M begins on the right. Run those first, and when they are in the right spots, run the "C" centered between them.

    I STILL vote for Steam-A-Seam!

    Chickenly yours,
    Judy

I'd set the blanket into a good size hoop, and chalk mark a straight line under the lettering after you've removed the wrong stitching.
AND don't forget-this is the CUSTOMER'S FAULT...they cannot expect you to fix it for free! GET $$ PER HOUR FOR LABOR from start to finish.
Hoop it, line the chalk mark up with center of hoop.
In Design shop, run a simple walk stitch about 10% inside the letter you need to embroider, 35 or 40 stitch lenght, then move this to be the first item sewn.
Send it to Amaya, and add a pause after the first 'inline'. Now start the sewout after moving the hoop around with the laser to where you think it should land-don't forget your 'offset' distance for the pointer.
Set to about 400 spm, and sew only your 'line'. If it is exactly where you want it, go ahead and sew the letter down. If it is way off, carefully pull the stitch out, move the hoop a little, and reload the design-sew just the line again. Once you have it where you want it, leave it as part of the underlayment for the letter unless it is a small letter. After the pause, either pull the stitch out or just keep sewing, set the speed up to 1000 or so. Should be fine for you!
Just remember-WE are not responsible for CUSTOMER errors!
      Time is MONEY!
      Good luck.

Thank you, Judy. I'll see if I can do that. Sitting here taking the tear-away backing off the blanket! They didn't trim any lettering nor clean up any of the backing!
Which reminds me, a long time ago I asked if it was OK to trim the bobbin thread on the back of the embroidery as long as you didn't trim too close. Never got any answer. Anyone?

NO NO NO...never trim the bobbin thread except for the 'long end' hanging off...
you know how you can open a bag of dogfood by pulling the 'magic' thread and the bag end just zips open? Well, that's what your bobbin thread is to embroidery. Just cut that and your sewing will just unravel.

I normally find a point on each of the letters next to it and make sure those line up and then I sew a edge walk stitch before sewing in satin or fill so you can see exactly where its going to go and if your alignment is off the walk stitches are easy to remove. Make sure you use long stitches like 25-35 and not short ones in case you do have to take it out and re-align.
