Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and to the business, so I hope someone can help me. I need to place a monogram on Egyptian cotton... a little pricey for mistakes.

How do you recommend that I hoop this to prevent hoop burn, and what backing(s) should I use to reduce pull? The monogram will be 2-inches, using the 3-letter seal format.

I've been running tests using some scrap material. I keep getting ripples in the material between the letters. I don't think I am hooping too tight. I've been told to attach my backing to the material with temporary spray adhesive prior to hooping. Any thoughts?

I also do not see much bobbin thread on the back of the design. Melco informs me this is acceptable as long as I am using the Auto Tensioning. Who knew something so simple would become such a nightmare.

DEFINITELY use spray adhesive. It really makes things all stick together like a big sandwich. Have you tried turning off auto tension and running one of them at one higher than auto tension was running (i.e., if auto tension was running at 3, have you tried on on regular tension at 4)?

Also if after working with the tension you might try a watersol on top of the fabric to help keep it in place. Be sure your tests are on the same kind of fabric or at least the same thickness as the finished product.

Tried the spray adhesive. Seemed to improve the quality somewhat. Adjusted the tension up one point and had four immediate thread breaks. Reset to auto and ran fine. Many local contacts have told me I'm being too critical of the appearance. Judy and Carole, thanks for your help.
