  • Patches on Caps

I need to sew 2 1/2" patches onto caps and thought it would be fairly easy to do with a walk stitch, but I don't have enough experience and it's not working out at all.
Is there anyone out there with the knowledge as how to do this effectively.
I really need help. I have 40 caps to do and need them done by Friday afternoon....ugh!
    Thank You.

I would first scan one of the patches, bring into design shop and make an actual size running stitch to locate the patch. Then I would digitize a satin stitch around this line as a tackdown stitch, maybe a density of 12 or 18. Do this all the time for patches on hats, jackets, etc. Make the locator and tackdown stitches the same color as the merrow on the patch. Good luck.

I've basically tried to do that and because of my lack of experience, I am having a hard time getting it all lined up properly. I am about to try it again, but have another question...what do you use to hold down the patch onto the cap before the tackdown stitch?

I spray the back of the patches with KK100 adhesive spray.

Is there a trick to getting it all lined up? Or is it just experience? I have the adhesive spray and that's not working for me. Not having a good night...

Stahls.com has some pressure-sensitive adhesive poly twill that works great on hats. You can buy it by the yard.

You may have to pre-curve the patch so it will lay down flat. If it won't, we use a chop stick to press down the area near the needle. No guarantees on your safety with that tip.
