  • Recommendations on Brand of Threads?

    Hello All......

I have been in the business about 3 months and have 2 XT's.
I am getting to the point of replenishing my supplies of Threads.

I am not crazy about ARC Poly threads....they seem very inconsistent to me, and I question the integrity of the product sometimes.

What do you more experienced people recommend? I am leaning towards either Isacord or Madeira based on comments from other people in the business. Problem with isacord is that I can't seem to get an actual Thread Chart. You can get one from Madeira at a hefty $79.00 fee!!!!

But I hate the idea of picking my thread colors from a printed color chart......it's just not accurate!

    I welcome your suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Mike @ TOUCAN Embroidery

Hi Mike. I really like Spectrum thread. www.spectrumthread.com You can purchase an actual thread chart for around $6.00. The thread is VERY strong, the color is great, and it runs like a dream. The pricing is around $4.50 to $5.00 per cone depending on how many cones you order, shipping is quick, and they are great to work with. Not affiliated, just really like their product.

      Hi Mike!

I like Madeira but I think you would like either one as both brands you are thinking about is pretty good. We used other brands but switched to Madeira as it just sewed better in our machines.

Alot of people also like Robinson Anton thread as well.

      Good Luck!

Why would you have to pay for a Madeira thread chart? We called them once to find out what they had-got a ton of freebie stuff-small rolls of thread to try out, all the color charts free, samples of backings, etc.-no problems and not a dime.
They ship within a day or two of your order-no waiting a long time.
You DO have to prove to their satisfaction that you are a commercial embrodierer (not a home sewer) first but that's all.
Just call their home office in New Hampshire!

I agree with Signman. We run Madeira and didnt have to pay for a threadchart. We run all Poly and have the entire rainbow of Madeira on the wall.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will call Madeira direct about the Thread Chart. I first went to their web site and saw their Thread Chart for $79.00. It actually comes in a binder in 1" square samples...according to their description on the web site.

I will check out Spectrum as well...but I never heard of them.

Just a follow up.....contacted Madeira in N.H. and they would not send me a free thread chart. had to pay $3.20 for the Poly Thread chart.
The $79.00 I mentioned in my previous post was in fact for a much larger version....a binder with 2" removeable thread cards.
According to the receptionist, only regular customers get free Thread Charts.

              regards,

              Mike

Must have been my charming voice....LOL but it was also 2 years ago I got everything free. But $3.20 isn't that bad. Once you do start ordering from them you should be able to get enough free samples of thread spools or something to more than make up for it.
Biggest advantage of using Madeira is they are more 'universal' if you use outside contractors for large orders-every company I've dealt with seems to use Madeira so they have the matching thread colors, etc. ARC doesn't seem to be used by anyone except Amaya and Melco owners-so there is always the problem with matching colors with other vendors, for outsourcing, OR for duplicating jobs done by previous vendors.
We're hanging on to our 288 spool ARC collection but switching all our 'major use' thread colors to madeira just for that reason.

I have had good luck so far with Long Creek Mills. And for $4 per 5000 meter roll, it's hard to beat.
