  • Embroidery on Ties

Good afternoon all. I have a customer who is requesting their corporate logo and individual names on Ties. I found a tie suitable to their needs and it is 100% silk. Can anyone offer me clues / tricks on how these sew so I can make a good cost estimate. I have not sewn on silk before. I do have a clamping system to hoop with if that is the best way.

Please help. This is my first customer wanting this type of business apparel.

    Thank you

I would be careful not to get them wet--I think they water spot!

I recently stitched small text onto a customer's 100% silk Tommy Bahama shirt. I used a fast frame and the Floriani Perfect Stick Tearaway, and held my breath in hopes of not ruining the $90 shirt. The embroidery turned out very nice. I made sure to go a little lighter on the density since the text was small. I used a 70/10 Gebedur Groz Beckert Needle. I don't have an Amaya, so not sure if these suggestions will apply to your silk ties. Normally, I don't use a sticky stabilizer, but the Floriani brand truly did not gum up the needles, peeled away easily afterwards, and eliminated any hoop marks or clamp impressions. However, it is expensive so be sure to include that in your quote to the customer if you plan to use it.

I did a tie a while back. Never again........Had to take it apart to get it stabilized. Sticky is no good, the fabric is doubled and the sticky only holds the bottom. Tried to get it in a 12cm, never could get it stable, top flopping around. Tried my clamp, somewhat better and maybe would have been okay with the smallest window (which I do not have) but was still loose. Ended up taking the thing apart and using the 12cm. Turned out great, took 1/2 a day. Whoopeee, making money on that one!!

Re Ann's message about thr Floriani Perfect Stick tearaway
If you buy the larger comm'l sizes it is much less expensive and the less water that you use the easier it will be to use.

When we first developed hydro--k wwe found it to be too aggressive.
We redeveloped it w towel loopies in mind.

Wet N Stick is much much less aggressive.

          Sincerely
          Fred

            Fred,
The Floriani stabilizer I used did not require water at all. Maybe I called it by the wrong name. I thought it was the Perfect Stick tearaway. . .

              Ann:

The Perfect Stick is a new product which also does not cause a gummy mess.
It is a needle friendly peel and stick adhesive stabilizer
It took a long time to develop this product!
We have 2 new industrial sizes and it is much less expensive in the larger 50 yd rolls

              Sincerely
              Fred
