The hide of the Nauga

I haven't had the pleaure of sewing on the great and rare Nauga, but this week did one rugged beast, the 1000 denier NylonPortfolio, a slender but rugged office pet.
Hooped it up in the speedframe, one piece of cutaway 3 oz. behind it, and let it rip on auto.
Was only 3 initials, 1.75 high, satin stitch-came out great.
Will this help?

As you know, because these exotic animals are found all over the world and their habitat / feeding habits can effect the grade of the hide ..... the quality and weight of naugahyde will vary greatly.
That being said, I prefer to treat naugahyde as common leather and will .... use a tear-away stabilizer, reduce / remove underlay stitches, reduce stitch density, remove short stitches, increase width of narrow column stithes, slow machine stitch speed down, etc.
Given the rarity of this exotic material, I would also scrounge up some scrap pieces to practice on before attempting to stitch your design on the final product.
Good luck

We hunt naugas here in Northern Montana
They are fierce animals!
It is correct in that their hide varies greatly in weight and in other ways from hide to hide
But
It is usually fairly stable and not stretchy
So - You probably can get by with a "wet laid" non directional tearaway.
But
Cutaways do generally lead to better registration as the fibers are longer allwing the threads to entangle themselves easier = better definition
Sincerely
