  • Help Please - Stuck Thread

My machine was humming along fine, then I started having horrible thread breaks. The thread was getting stuck around the rotary hook. I've done 3 rotary hook adjustments and am still having the same problem. The adjustments have come out perfect. I've changed needles, cleaned the hook area, needle plate, bobbin, checked tension, oiled, and everything I can think of. When I spin the hook, the thread actually gets stuck between the hook basket and the rotary hook area, then of course the thread just SNAPS! Any "guru's" out there have any other ideas that will help?
    Thanks
    Lois

By your post I assume you have "adjusted" the hook timing to no avail. Did you remove the hook and check it for scratches/burrs? Can you describe how you are spinning the hook? Can you see where the thread is catching on the hook?
    Need more information.

Herb - I did not take the hook out. I spin the hook from the maintance head timing menu. I've also done the head up several times to watch it slower and can see the thread getting stuck. It seems to go over the top (from what I can see) then the thread gets stuck on the left side.
      Thanks

Have you used any adhesive spray or sticky backing in the recent past? These cause some strange issues and could be a source. If not, call me in the morning, 7-8 am would be best. 208-746-0448.

Yes, I have used sticky backing recently. I'd call you, but I've recently caught a cold and now have no voice. Should I take out the hook and clean it? I've never taken it out.

No. Do not take the hook out at this point.
            1. Remove the needle plate and the lower guards (they are the plates under the hook).
            2. Put any old design in OS.
            3. On the active needle, lift the red pinch roller up and unthread the needle.
            4. Go to settings and disable ALL thread detection.
            5. Start the machine and give the hook a 1-2 second shot of WD-40. Helps to hold a rag under the area to contain the overspray. Let the machine run for about 5 seconds or so.
            6. Stop machine and wipe hook and sourroiunding area with the rag. Inspect hook closely for any scratches. Use canned air to dry hook. Oil hook as per instructions.
7.Put machine back together, reactivate thread detection. Double check settings and run it.

Let me know what is going on.

Ok. I cleaned with WD 40 and ran, cleaned and oiled. It still got stuck on the left side. Any other suggestions?

Sure, when is it best? My voice is getting a little better, just kind of raspy.
