  • Beanie Caps

    Hi All,

I'm looking for advice on sewing a beanie cap. A customer wants only 1 beanie cap and I gave a low price thinking there would be a larger order. I will order 2 beanie caps in case of serious error in the first. However to limit the chance of error, beside increasing the material thickness, how do you hoop/sew a beanie? Given the spongieness of the material, should I hoop at a nominal tightness, or "stretch" the material in the hoop?
    Thanks,
    Jim W.

    a couple of quick notes...
    1) try never to give a low price 'in anticipation' of a larger order-it's a classic customer ploy to get a lower price and never come back.
Instead, charge your normal full price and explain-if they come back for more-there will be a 'credit' on the larger order.
    2) don't stretch the hat when hooping...after sewing it will try to shrink back and pucker the design even worse. Hoop it not much more than enough to keep it from drooping, extra backing, and extra underlayment and solvy on top.

Thanks for the advice. I followed the advice of not "stretching" the hat in the hoop, using two layeres of backing, and solvy on top, and the resultant sew was awesome!
        Thank YOu!
