  • Thread pulling out of needle

I'm having trouble with the thread pulling out of the needle. Specifically in lettering when it makes a cut after one letter and begins sewing another.

It doesn't pull out when I'm sewing out a design from Dakota or Great Notions - so I know it's my digitizing of lettering. What should I change in Design Shop when I'm using stock lettering with cuts in between each letter?

Hi Kip - I see you posted this a while back and no one responded so I'll take a shot at solving it. In regards to digitizing, I click on the "select-all" button, then go to the tab for Lock/Tie-in (if memory serves right). Then I select 'always' tie-in, and below check the box for trim if greater than 0.25". I have made it a habit to ALWAYS use the Tie-in/out selection. This helps tie the thread post a trim, but even in my experience, does not solve it 100% the time, as my machines will sometimes not catch the bobbin.

I try to watch/study what happens in the trim process. What I have noticed about the trim sequence is that as the needle moves down, sometimes the thread remains in the velcro, and sometimes it quickly slide out of the velcro. Somtimes the needle enters the garmet with only 0.5" or so of thread threaded in the eye of the needle, and sometimes it enters the garmet with a longer tail (depends on how long it stays in the velcro). Sometimes the thread catches the bobbin, then escapes, then catches it again to continue sewing. And, sometimes it doesn't catch initially but does when the machine is at full speed. Also, some thread breaks seem to happen in this initial start of the sew after catching the bobbin. All I know is that improving the consistency of "catching the bobbin" post a trim or color change would go a long way toward reducing stopped machine time.

    Thanks,
    Jim W.
