  • Design formats for XT

I am a new owner, but have been using dst format on my old machine. When in the Amaya OS, dst designs don't show a picture of what it is, like aother formats do. Is this normal?

I don't have DesignShop, I use Generations. What format do you think is best to use? Dst doesn't carry the color code, so I have to have a seperate file to keep track of the color list and would actually prefer to use a different format.

    Any help would be appreciated.

When you say doesn't show a picture, what do you mean? You should be able to view the design in stitches view or 3D by clicking the 3D button.

Since I'm not familiar with your program, I am not sure what you could save as that would save color information.

It's when Im in "Load Design" and the list of my designs come up, when I hover the mouse over a design name, I can see the design - except for dst - doesn't show anything. After I load it, I can see it. But I sure would like to see it before I load it.

I can convert to just about any format. I was just wondering if one format is better than another.

        Hi Juli,

If you can convert the DST to EXP, that will show in the Preview Window of the File Load dialogue. DST files will show in the Preview Window if they are created by Melco software.

As far as saving color information, Melco OFM format does that, and I believe some of the home formats may save some colors as well but off the top of my head I cannot tell you which ones. As you are not using Melco design software, the best and easiest for you would be to use Melco EXP format to have them show in the Preview Window but they will not have colors saved to them.

I think pes format saves color info.

I am still feeling my way around the OS. Murphy's law in taking up residence in my computer. But I have got to learn all this stuff.

So, Re the OFM - Does that save the colors or just the needle assignment? And How do I access it again for another stitchout next month? This whole Project files thing is new to me. The thing that I have to solve is what are the colors for a particular design. Previously, I have been saving two files, dst for the actual file that I send to the machine, and hus or pes to have a file that saves the colors. There must be an easier way.

              Juli,

If you open a design (.dst, pes, exp.cnd, etc.) in AMAYA OS you can then change the colors to what you want, then you can click on the Notepad button and type any notes you would like. After you have everything where you want it you can then do a Save As ... and then save it as a .ofm file. Then you have your original file saved as dst, pes, whatever and in addition you have a ofm file as well. Next time you run this job just open the ofm file and your colors and setting should be there still. You still have your original format as well in case you ever need to make changes to it. I do this all the time when my digitizer sends me my files in .dst (my digitizer uses Brother software and the other one uses Wilcom I think, maybe pulse) I open them in DS and then do as I listed above and then I have it in ofm. Each color change is listed as an expanded still so it doesn't change the way the dst sews even though I have it saved as a ofm. You should be able to do this in AMAYA OS if you don't have Design Shop to do it in. Hope this makes sense.
