• XT won't power up

Hello. I just got back from vacation. I went to turn my XT on and I get not response. No Lights... I checked cord it was fine, I checked the back of the XT, it was fine, I checked the fuse's they are fine.

Am I missing something simple or should I call my tech?

Have you turned the red button yet? Possibly that was hit...

Tina, I tried that, no luck. The power light on the keypad will not even light up.

Check your fuse/circuit panel to see if that line is kaput...or plug something else (like a desk lamp or fan) into both plugs where the XT goes. Sounds like you have no power coming into it...or, a blown fuse IN the XT if there is one there someplace.
Testing the outlet will narrow down your options.

I know you checked the power cord, but it is running into a power strip or line conditioner? If so, have you checked to make sure the switch is turned on? I always turn off every switch between the machine and wall when I am leaving or if there is bad weather in the area.

call Melco>explain problem...the tech on the phone should be able to talk you through a fix, or, at least be able to help you trobleshoot the "opportunity to learn" more about these complex and persnickity (yup-said it- truth is truth) machines.

Yeah I tried a lamp in the outlet and it worked. I checked the fuse's they look fine. I guess I will call Melco tomorrow. Thanks everyone, I will post when I find out what it is.

Melco support said my power supply died and want $341 plus shipping for a new one. I have no choice but to get it and try it.

A good power supply for your computer will run a hundred to one hundred fifty. $341 is a bit steep. Wondering if this could have been bought aftermarket from another supplier.

All in all - $350 is a cheap repair though for a commercial embroidery machine.

Will,
Just so you know, there are fuses before the power supply but after the power cord. I have never seen any blown in all my years as a tech but that doesn't rule them out as a possibility.

It's also possible to have a bad power cord. The Amaya uses a standard PC power cord so make sure you rule this out.

I've also seen a power supply that was so filled with dust that it was not allowed to be kept cool so it wasn't working correctly. Thoroughly cleaned it out and the machine has been working for fine for over a year and a half. (I saw this customer recently for something else.)

That's not to say that while you were out, lightening may have hit your house/business and took out the power supply with a surge. If it's determined that both your power supply AND main board aren't working correctly, you might want to consider an insurance claim (depending on your deductible).

If your power supply is the only problem, $341 is not a bad price as I remember them to have been $400 for many years. So there's a $60 savings to start off with. If you call a tech and a power supply is not needed, you may still come out ahead. How close is your local tech?? Where exactly is Saginaw??

I talked with my tech and he suggested I test the switch and cord. I had a guy into test both and there is power going to the power supply and it ends there. So I ordered a new one and it comes tomorrow. Hope it works.

Yup it was the power supply. Ouch pricey.
