I've been living with and compensating for skipped stitches since our Big Red was new; maybe you can help. This occurs on wide satin stitches (at least this is where I notice it).
We embroider almost entirely on poly satin, poly micro velvet and rayon brocades using mainly satin stitch designs that we digitize to copy the look of heavy free-motion machine embroidery done in Greece and Russia. Many elements have wide satin stitches that I try to keep under 3/8" wide. To get the thick look I use a double zigzag underlay (10/90). This also helps hide the problem I have had with skipped stitches. Here is all the info I can think of for diagnosis:
-Organ DBxK5 75/11 ball, no burrs, orientation slightly off center
-YLI metallic thread (seems to be identical to RA and has few breaks when my digitizing is up to par)
-speed 500-1000, mostly 800
-presser foot just touching surface
-bobbin tension, a 2-4" drop when gently bounced
-drum tight hooping with athletic wrap on a jacket back hoop
-various cutaway backings as recommended to me by Fred Lebow
-I lube often as Rod recommends
-I've set both the hook timing and retaining support finger (using the looped thread method)
-Hugo walked me thru tensioning my X-belt a few months ago
-AMPASS runs fine with Madiera rayon
We are 1 1/2 hours from a city of any size and 1/2 hour from the interstate so I'd like to avoid the huge cost of a tech visit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
