Wedge Needle?

I read, somewhere recently, to use a wedge titanium needle to embroider on dog collars and leather. I can't remember where I read it, but can someone confirm that for me? If it is true, where would I purchase such a needle?!
I have leather, dog collars and karate belts to embroider on asap!
