How to embroider on pillow shams

Hello everyone! I don't post often here but i have a question that I was hoping someone could give some recommendations on. I have some King size pillow shams that I would like to add a border too. I would like to do this without having to take the sham apart. Also could anyone tell me where to get a chain or rope borders and corner design to make a continious.
