  • Free Standing Lace questions

I have never done free standing lace on my Amaya XT. Can it be done?

If so, I will need to have the same color bobbin thread as top thread.
Are there pre-wound colored bobbins or will I need to wind empty bobbins on sewing machine or purchase a bobbin winder.

I have not seen any colored bobbins... I have some old bobbins with cardboard sides that have been replaced, so I guess I could take the thread off a few of the old ones. Will that work? The new ones are magnetic so they don't have sides...

Good thing is I only need 3 colors!

    Thanks

I have done FSL on an Amaya XT. I have only used plastic side prewound bobbins. I don't think you will get a very good result with a bobbin you wind yourself.

There are a few places that sell colored bobbins but they are in a very limited array of colors. Do a search for colored bobbins and you should find several places.

For all the FSL I have done I use 2 layers of heavy weight badgemaster.

I did some lace 12 inch squares for a tablecloth on my Amaya XT in the largest hoop available. They stitched great.

I always slow the machine speed down to about 600 when doing large lace designs.

Thanks Marcelle! I will try to find some pre-wound bobbins.. Great to know that you have had good luck with FSL.
