  • Trimmer Upgrade?

We're having issues with our XT machine not picking up bobbin thread (mostly trimming to short). The entire trimmer assembly has recently been replaced and re-adjusted twice. Can't tell a difference. Has anyone upgraded their XT with the XTS trimmers with any luck?

When we had this issue, we changed the trim length to "long" and lessened the bobbin tension and changed the auto setting minimum up to 3 or 4 depending on each machine. Worked fine after that. It appeared this issue started with an upgrade to OS 10.00.37. I understand it is quite a task to switch to the new trimmers on the XT. I believe Rod commented on this in this forum some time ago. Perhaps search to see what he had to say.

ckamer is right. To convert an XT to the newer XTS trimmer module is not just a plug and play installation. It is very involved requiring new stepper motors, a sliding yoke assembly, pushrods, trimmer module, etc....

To address your issue of the "bobbin thread" being cut short, this simply means that the "selector" is not picking up both the top thread and the bobbin thread and pulling them back under the pressure leaf spring and then when the knife fires it will cut both of them. If the bobbin thread misses being picked up by the selector, the knife will usually cut the bobbin thread off at the top of the bobbin case leaving a "short bobbin".

So, either the under thread pressure spring is damaged or out of adjustment and not holding the top and bobbin thread in place tight enough for the knife to make a clean cut or the selector has not been properly adjusted for throw or the module assembly is not adjusted properly. Getting the "right" settings for the knife/selector/module is critical for this system to work properly....period!
