What do you charge for a jacket back with you to 30,000 stitches?

I just finished one for a customer 58000 stitches and I charged him 45$ for digitizing and $50 for sewing it. He only wanted one jacket, if he would bring 12 or more I would drop that to 40$

Thanks! I hope he does bring you 12 or more jackets to do, that would be a great order!!

Hello depending on the thickness of the jacket and the time frame I go off the top of my pointy head 35 as low as 20 depending. Also I tell customer the price range so I have something to work with because if I have more invested is the other case.

Although your stitch count is low for a full jacket back, I still think the pricing given in the previous posts si low. Rod Springer always reminds us not to forget all the time it takes to maintain our machines and to prepare for the order. I usually begin with $1/1000 stitches (not including digitizing) and then look at the complexity of the hooping etc. Here is a quote from our John, our site administrator:

"Full Jacket backs are pretty expensive and time consuming. How long do you anticipate this will take to layout & design, test sew, and sew.

Once you add all that up and know what your time is worth, then you can start pricing.

It's not unusual for digitizing of a full back to run $75-100 (or more) alone."

            Ha, I just got quoted...

Bottom line, we sew every design out 2-3-4 times to make adjustments and make sure its going to look right. With jacket backs that would mean 60k times at least two and more likely 3. When you add time, materials etc, 30-40-50 bucks for the design sounds pretty low. More like at least 60 for the sew out (probably more) and if it's a one off, even more because you can't recoup your setup costs. Personally, the last thing I want to do is a one off full jacket back. I'd rather be running 100 polos any day.

Plus, what happens if you have a machine mishap and have to start over. Hope this is on jackets you are buying, not customer supplied....

Hurray for our intrepid administrator! Since the work we do is so different from everyone else, I hesitated to reply but I thought the others' pricing sounded awfully low.

I do a lot of jacket backs (200+) a year, mostly letterman's jackets. I am the sub for a local jacket retailer (mostly Holloway) so I have contract pricing and regular retail pricing. My contract pricing averages out to $.75 per 1k. My retail is at $1 per 1k. I outsource any digitizing and my experience allows me to not have to stitchout the design prior to the actual jacket stitching. My pricing has been the same for 10 years so it will probably be going up soon!

For your jacket I would have charged $60 for the 58k stitches. For 12 or more jackets, 10% off. Don't sell yourself short.

FYI, I love jacket backs with thousands of stitches (I have a few designs that are over 200k). The machine just hums away only stopping for bobbin changes. I can be doing all kinds of things while the machine makes me money!

I guess looking as all the different prices I must not be charging enough for my work but then some of my customers had just nickle and dimed me to death that I wound up not making anything. So here we are my price range and this is where we are and now I do make something all the time and I do have word of mouth and that is how I keep and get more customers. I do not have many but that is ok,there are Way Too many in this town to compete with and there are also many in the Casinos and in the Malls and also the Flea Markets. By the way I am not taking the low prices personally I may just rethink this whole thing. Thank you to you all.
